Abstract
Four case studies of patients with frontal lobe symptoms are presented and the efficacy of holistic interventions and support utilizing group therapy is reported. Case Study 1 was of a patient suffering from an emotional disorder resulting in an excessive sense of justice and a decline of convergent reasoning following a left frontal lobe contusion. Learning to use strategies, learning to act while checking and targeting actions for improvement in the future through psychological group activities and group physical education was effective. In Case Study 2 the patient was unconcerned about the lack of purposeful action and the results of action following the extraction of a right frontal lobe tumor. The patient also had difficulties with initiating, continuation and the controlling actions and a decline of divergent reasoning. Training to act purposefully and goal setting through group physical education was effective for this patient. The patient in Case Study 3 was suffering from “ adynamia” following bilateral lobe contusion. Job training and support from the local support center was efficacious. The patient in Case Study 4, suffered short-term memory defects that was detrimental to his relationships and “ emotional flooding” following brain hypoxia. Group exercises to develop social skills in promoted relaxation in this patient. It is concluded that group therapy was beneficial for returning the patients to normal life.
