Dementia is a clinical syndrome which consists of various diseases. It is important to make a differential diagnosis of the disease to plan treatments and care for the patient. Each dementing disease shows a characteristic pattern in the cognitive impairments. When clinicians perform the neuropsychological examination for the patient, they should evaluate the results not only quantitatively but also qualitatively, i.e, they should consider the meaning of the profile of deficits in the multiple domains of cognitive functions.
