Abstract

This paper reports on the design process and practical results of a workshop design seminar for Human-Centered Design (HCD) practitioners, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of applying HCD principles to educational program development. The seminar's planning, program design, and improvement processes consistently followed the HCD process, including understanding the context of use, specifying user requirements, producing design solutions, and evaluating the design through prototyping (rehearsals). This iterative process, conducted through close collaboration by the facilitation team, allowed for the identification of key issues and concrete improvements prior to implementation. As a result, the seminar achieved high participant satisfaction (average 4.65 on a 5-point scale). Qualitative analysis of feedback confirmed that the design choices derived from the HCD process—such as an experiential learning structure, a "design intent reveal" session for metacognition, and a collaborative team facilitation system—were highly effective. This report demonstrates the effectiveness of the HCD process in developing educational programs that meets participant needs and discusses future challenges.
