Abstract
In the current study, we focused on depression among undergraduates and developed preventive educational programs that are appropriate for both university classes and counseling services. We first report the process by which a CBT program was introduced into group work within a counseling service. We show results from a short trial within the university counseling service in order to investigate the practicality and effectiveness of the CBT program. Before and after the program, participants completed questionnaires measuring self-efficacy related to cognitive coping, which was determined to be useful for reducing depression. Participants also gave a comprehensive evaluation of the program. Results suggested that the program was effective in enhancing self-efficacy related to cognitive coping. Although the number of participants for this study was very small, participants' comments suggested that their needs were met, and interest in the program was rather high. Future studies need to investigate the effectiveness of CBT programs in more detail and with larger samples.
