Abstract
Suicide countermeasures as a national policy have been developed since the number of suicides surged in 1998. However, the suicide mortality of Japan has been staying high from an international point of view. The aim of the present research is to clarify factors of suicide from viewpoints of generations, cultures and communities as bases of effective countermeasures against suicide. This research consists of 4 independent studies: ①Life history analysis for identifying factors of suicide, ② Observation study on mortality of suicides among people suffering from Hansen Disease in Japan, ③Identifying issues and discussion on increasing suicide among young and adolescence in Japan, ④ Existing state and challenges on education for suicide prevention. In study 1 and 3, life history analyses were done for an elderly man and a young man, respectively. In study 2, mortality of suicides among people suffering from Hansen Disease in different ages and places in Japan were elucidated according to literatures. A memorandum of a person in a sanatorium was also analyzed in study 2. In study 4, educations for suicide prevention in Japan, USA and Turkey were analyzed comparatively, based on literatures. As for that in Turkey, an interview for a key informant was also done. These studies analyze various factors of suicides in different generations, cultures and communities and suggest effective countermeasures and education for suicide prevention.
