How to Calculate and Compare Hydrogen Supply Cost? - An Example of International Hydrogen Supply Chain -

Abstract

In the global movement to achieve carbon neutrality, there is a growing trend toward the widespread use of hydrogen. Since hydrogen can be produced from various primary energy sources and transported and stored in a variety of ways and forms, there is always a demand to compare supply costs between different production, transportation, and storage methods. This paper outlines a method for calculating and intercomparing the cost of hydrogen supply using examples from our previous studies, and pick up some points to keep in mind. As a case study, we use an international hydrogen supply chain in which hydrogen produced overseas is imported to Japan by ship in the form of various hydrogen energy carriers.
