Japanese Government has revised the Basic Hydrogen Strategy in June 2023. One of the objectives is to make clear the pathways for Japan to develop a hydrogen society under the “S+3E” principles. The revised strategy sets out the key supply and demand targets and anticipated production and procurement means and use-cases that both public and private sectors are encouraged to invest and foster. The strategy also describes the main points of the proposed producer support and cluster development support schemes that would assist realizing large-scale, resilient supply chains. The hydrogen safety strategy, including potential refinement of the existing laws and regulations based on scientific evidence, as well as the hydrogen industry strategy, which focuses on the promising industry areas where Japanese cutting-edge technologies have strength, are also discussed. These strategies have the common goals that Japan and Japanese industries lead the development of global hydrogen market and the introduction of hydrogen at a large scale.
