Abstract
Frullania muscicola Steph. (Frullaniaceae) is a liverwort species with considerable morphological plasticity. As a stepping stone for research on genetic diversity within the species, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of F. muscicola (Form A) was assembled and annotated for the first time in this study. The cp genome of F. muscicola is 120,444 bp long with the GC content of 31.9 %, consisting of four subregions: a large single-copy (LSC) region of 82,312 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 19,792 bp and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 9,170 bp each. The cp genome of F. muscicola encodes a total of 120 unique genes, which are 87 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. Phylogenetic trees based on the coding sequences strongly support the sister relationship of F. muscicola with the F. nodulosa accession, and monophyly of the Porellales in which it is sister to the Lejeuneaceae-Jubulaceae clade, as previously reported.
