The radioactive isotope 14C is utilized for carbon dating and as a tracer in the environment or human body. In drug development, a new clinical trial using a limited amount of 14C called “Microdose study” has been developed to directly investigate pharmacokinetics in the human body. While Accelerator Mass Spectrometry has extremely high sensitivity above natural abundance, its high cost and less throughput are insufficient for this purpose. In this study, we are developing alternative method for 14C analysis based on mid infrared Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) toward Microdose study.
