Abstract
Applicability of Zn sprayed steel plate for corrosion preventive bottom plate of oil storage tanks is investigated in this study.
From the results by laboratory experiments, it is found that apparent localized corrosion does not grow even in the condition where oxygen concentration differential cell is formed. The corrosion rate of Zn sprayed layer increases with elevation of temperature and of chloride ion concentration, but considering oil storage field condition, the corrosion rate is adequately low. Hence, applicability of Zn sprayed steel plate for corrosion preventive bottom plate of oil storage tanks is found.
Moreover, corrosion lifetime enhancement effect by Zn sprayed steel plate is estimated by summarizing results reported up to now utilizing extreme value statistic analysis. As a result, it is estimated that Zn sprayed layer with 400μm thickness enables to extend corrosion lifetime of oil storage tank bottom plate about twice in oil storage tank field.
