Abstract
The present paper describes a new gas detecting system which can visualize leak spots of LP-gas (main ingredient:propane-gas) on real time, using OPO-laser, IR-camera, optical system and reflecting screen. The irradiated OPO-laser beam with a certain wavelength (3. 37μm) is fully absorbed through LP-gas, and this phenomenon has been used as the basic principle for LP-gas detection. So, the IR-camera consisting of InSb elements which have excellent detectivity for wavelength band of 3μm-5μm has been employed for the experiment. The results of basic experiments on some factors affecting detectability of this system, such as effect of laser wavelength and exposure time of IR-camera, have been presented. Furthermore, intensity differences of infrared between the inspected spot through the LP-gas and background area on the screen have been also examined to determine the best condition of measurement for visualizing by this system. It is concluded that the proposed system offers a good tool for monitoring the LP-gas leakage.
