A Trend of Risk-Based Engineering

Abstract

Risk is a valuable concept that contrasts with reliability and safety approaches. Risk-based engineering and⁄or technology can be applied in three areas:design, manufacturing, and maintenance.
In this paper, the current status of risk-based design, risk-based manufacturing, and risk-based maintenance is briefly discussed. Risk-based inspection is to consider a particularly important part of risk-based maintenance. Typical examples of risk-based inspection are indicated.
