Abstract
The asbestos substitution of gaskets using at room temperature is completed expect for some gaskets that is difficult substitute by the government ordinance that revised a part of Industrial Safety and Health Act Enforcement Regulations enforced in September 2006. Also, the asbestos substitution is gradually advanced the gasket using at elevated temperature, but the properties of non-asbestos gaskets at elevated temperatures have not yet been adequately described. In the future, the investigation of non-asbestos gasket properties at elevated temperature is important in using the non-asbestos gasket throughout long term. The objective of present study is to clarify the sealing behavior of non-asbestos SWG over 300 degrees C. In addition, the evaluation of sealing behavior of non-asbestos spiral wound gasket (SWG) that was supposed the operation of the plant is carried out. Not only the sealing behavior of non-asbestos SWG but also reproducibility and effectiveness of proposed testing method was shown by 3 times tests. The sealing behavior of non-asbestos SWG at 300 degrees C was “the level without the leak”. Moreover, when the test for sealing behavior of non-asbestos SWG that was supposed the restart of the plant is carried out, the leak level of the non-asbestos SWG was equivalent around the restart. Therefore, the non-asbestos SWG is able to keep using after the restart.
