Abstract
In the previous report, we investigated the validity on a size requirement for KIc testing in the proposed revision of ISO 12135, W-a≥1. 1 (KQ⁄σys)2 , on the basis of 3 dimensional elastic-plastic finite element analyses of CT specimens. It was demonstrated that there was a risk that we recognized KQPl, which means KQ obtained as a result of the plasticity at the crack tip without the crack extension, to be a plane strain fracture toughness KIc, although the size requirement of W-a≥1. 1 (KQ⁄σys)2 was met. Meanwhile, there was a merit that KIc might be obtained by using small size specimens in the range of 1. 1≤ (W-a) ⁄ (KQ⁄σys)2 <2. 5.
In this report, a new validity assessment of KIc testing for micro-void coalescence type fracture is proposed on the basis of the previous report.
