The effect of compressive strain hold on the high-temperature low cycle fatigue life of austenitic, martensitic and bainitic ateels was examined. The effect was acarcely observed for austenitic steels, but was observed for martensitic and bainitic steels. The life reduction by compressive strain hold was thought to be caused by oxidation effect and the stress ratio effect due to unsymmetric wave shape.
