Abstract
A histological study on the seasonable change of spermatogenesis of a lizard, Takydromus tachydromoides, was carried out.
Lizards used as material, were collected every month in 1955, in Handa City, Aichi Prefecture. The testis, which was removed from the narcosized adult, was fixed with Bouin's fluid and embedded in paraffin. Then, serial sections were cut 5 micro in thickness and stained with haematoxylin-eosin and Heidenhain's ironhaematoxylin.
It was observed that the seasonable change of spermatogenesis of this species was nearly the same as that of Eumeces latiscutatus.
The production of spermatozoa of this species begins in April and ends in August. Spermatozoa produced last year, was not observed in the seminiferous tubules from April to August. The maturation division was observed from August to September. In September, spermatids were found in the seminiferous tubules. From November to December, the seminiferous tubules were filled with spermatozoa.
Activity of germ-cells was under control of the weather, especially the temperature.
