Non-contact heart rate measurement of multiple targets using millimeter-wave radar

Abstract

In Japan’s aging population, the onset of emergent diseases at home is increasing. Monitoring heart rate contributes to early detection of these diseases. To realize this system, a sensor that simultaneously measures multiple people in a non-contact way is needed. In this study, we fabricated several phantoms that imitated the movement of human chest wall, which oscillates according to the heart beats, and measured their heart rates simultaneously using 79 GHz millimeter-wave radar. As a result, the heart rate of each phantom could be detected with an error rate of less than 5%.
