Abstract

This commentary article describes the forthcoming information systems should have several aspects from the viewpoints of “sustainable societies”, which are closely related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations States. Along with the progress of the information and communication technologies (ICT), the information system architecture has been varying in design. Current “cloud computing” is expected to absorb diverse requirements such as business, industries and consumers. Information systems initially tackled solutions from business and industry process infrastructure viewpoints. However, ICT comes to penetrate daily information activities of consumers, which includes more diverse problems. Based on short outlook on computer architecture and information systems history, what aspects and technologies as to new values for “sustainable societies” are also discussed.
