Abstract
Some detailed features of MEDLARS journal article file (MEDLINE files) are described for the Japanese user. According to its categorized indexing terms, an analysis of the file covering the period from January 1975 through May 1980 shows: 76% out of a total of 1, 365, 977 indexed articles have medical, 21.9% chemical and drug, and the remaining 2.1% geographical terms. The file includes total of 243, 594 indexed articles taken from some 3, 000 journal titles and 1, 990 individual reports in 55 proceedings of major congresses and symposia processed in het U. S. fiscal year of 1979. A part of the file is consisted of the so-called Special Lists journals which are not included in Index Medicus. Their statistical data are also shown. The article's type and the bibliographical description, i. e. the author, institutional affiliation of the author, title, rubric, language, journal title, volume and issue number, pagination and publication date, are described in detail.
