Abstract
Tokyo Women's Medical College has recently established a Division of Medical Information Science in conjunction with our main medical library. Its main tasks include supporting a formal curriculum, the holding of a Macintosh beginner's course and the holding of a workshop on medical information. The division is open to all students and staff members the same as the medical library.
We have successfully introduced a medical information network system referred to as JOINET (JOshiidai Information NETwork system) which can be accessed via inside or outside telephone lines with a MODEM. The network covers the medical database produced by the medical library, the Department of Pharmacy and the Central Clinical Laboratory, and accepts not only characters but also graphic data. The division undertakes operation of the system as one of its activities. As our next step, we intend to load a large medical database, e. g., CD-ROM MEDLINE.
