Abstract
Hamamatsu Red Cross Hospital Library has made index cards for special journal issues featuring specific medical topics since 1980 and has printed them in the library news since 1982, making them available to our clientele. In 1987, a personal computer (NEC PC-9801VX21) was introduced into the library system for retrieval of specific medical topics. This system includes the following features: 1) supplying index cards, 2) constructing classified lists for the library news, 3) print-out of an annual book index, and 4) providing other specific information retrieval systems. The hospital librarian formulated a questionnaire as to the utilization of the above mentioned system and found that it has greatly benefited our clients. The annual book index is also distributed to other hospital librarians within Shizuoka Prefecture. The librarian's future plans are to up-date the present computer system in accordance with client requests and also to undertake the task of teaching and guiding clients in proper methods of retrieving specific topics with appropriate terminology.
