Abstract

Shinshu University took charge in 2006 of Area I of the Cyber Science Infrastructure (CSI) Development Project of the National Institute of Informatics (NII), and developed the Shinshu Universtiy Online System of General Academic Resources (SOAR). SOAR achieves mutual coordination by linking e-journals and the Web of Science to the researcher directory and the institutional repository-two system cornerstones. This led to improvement of the internal environment of scholarly information of the university, and dissemination of university research results and research activities, both within Japan and around the world, to a wider audience. SOAR targets universality, and the core of its system has begun to be provided free of charge to the academic communutiy around the world. The role of the medical library in SOAR is to encourage researchers to archive their papers in the institutional repository, to formulate and promote an archiving policy, to deal with the faculty and to cooperate with the main library.
