Abstract
In this paper, we have proposed an automatic generation method of colored-paper mosaic images from input images. The hierarchical Poisson disk sampling algorithm is employed to determine torn colored-paper tile locations. Our method makes it possible to control overlapped region percentages among neighboring torn colored-paper tiles. We have also developed several techniques to improve the quality of generated colored-paper mosaic images: a shadow casting technique, and a technique to represent naive textures of Japanese-style paper as well as Japanese paper of colored figures and patterns like “Chiyogami”. Experimental results verify that our method is effective enough to generate various colored-paper mosaic images automatically.
