Abstract
As the 3D sensing technology had been developed and widely applied, the technical demands for analyzing the significant information from an acquired spatial data are increasing. Especially, edge detection is an useful technique for dealing with various applications, so will be important for 3D information processing from now on. Many researchers had proposed edge detection methods based on the differential values in raster data. However, these conventional methods can not extract the structural edge on a 3D object, was provided as the edges in rough or occlusion regions frequently in our evaluations. In this study, we focused on a ridgeline of a 3D object, and proposed a novel edge detection method for 3D information processing with statistical analysis of the normal vectors in a 3D point cloud.
