Abstract

After removal of catheters in radial arteries which have been pricked for diagnosis and treatment, it is necessary to compress a puncture site of arteries by the fingers of a doctor or a nurse for at least about 10 minutes. In order to reduce the troublesome works in hemostatic treatment, we developed a hemostatic pressure tape placed with a pressure plate between a compress pad and an elastic adhesive tape. The pressure plate gives an elastic force of the adhesive tape to the quasivertical direction and we obtain a required compression by the pad for hemostasis. As the pressure plate gives a space between the plate and the skin, it reduces the peripheral hemodynamic and neurogenic disorder. The new hemostatic pressure tape with 30 mm pressure plate (STP-P) obtained an adequate pressure by the pad that was 96±ll mmHg (mean±S. D.) by applying around the wrist to extend the elastic adhesive tape by 2 cm on each end, and almost no side effects were seen even after 2 hours application.
