Abstract
In advanced countries that already had aging societies in the middle of the 1990's, Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly has become not only a problem of the domain of the welfare, but also a very serious social and economic problem on a national level. In Japan, "Public Long Term Care Insurance" has been introduced since April 1, 2000, to solve these problems. In the 1990's, when it was constituted, various kinds of studies were conducted about "Long Term Care".
In this paper, I define "Long Term Care" in Japan as "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly", and review previous studies about "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly" especially using the technique of economic analysis. As a result, I find that there are three big issues concerning "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly", and on the basis of those issues, classify papers about "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly" into the study of "the nature of goods", "demand side", "supply side".
However, economic analysis in the field of "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly" is scarce. Many data have been accumulated since "Public Long Term Care Insurance" began. Using those data, the development of economic analysis in the field of "Long Term Nursing Care for the Elderly" is required.
