Abstract
This paper is on the dependence of inter-dendritic diffusion of tin on the inverse segregation in Cu-8%Sn alloy. Distribution of tin was studied at 10, 30 and 60 seconds by placing tin on the surface of the liquid copper in a quartz tube immersed in tin bath. The diffusion behaviors in liquid copper containing Al, Si, P, Ni and Fe were determined in N2, Ar and H2 atmosphere.
In H2 the homogeneity of tin was promoted in liquids containing Ni, Si and Al, but not in the liquid containing Fe. In Ar the homogeneity was enhanced in the liquid containing Ni, but inhibited in liquids containing Fe, P, Si and Al. In N2 the homogeneity was accelerated in liquids containing Ni and P, but slowed down in liquids containing Al, Si and Fe.
The inverse segregation of tin was apparently moderated substantially by the homogenizing of tin in the liquid.
