Abstract
  A handy estimating method of solidification time in relation to shape of casting is proposed. Heat equivalence between casting and mold is assumed as follows ;
      m⋅Q0=αM√t
where m is modulus defined as a ratio of volume to surface area, Q0 is heat released from a unit volume of casting during period t, M is mold constant, and α is the ratio of heat absorbed by mold of a given casting to heat absorbed by mold of infinite plate-type casting through a unit surface area respectively. Subseqently α is induced as follows ;
      α=1+γ(Q0/M)
where, γ is a coefficient which takes different value only in relation to casting shape. Analyses yield 0.016cm⋅s-1/2 of γ for spherical castings and 0.012cm⋅s-1/2 for cylindrical castings.
