Abstract
By means of the right ventricle heart catheterization, the effects of 250mg of aminophyllin, that were infused through wedged catheter, on the cardio-pulmonary functions were investigated in nine cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, including one case complicated with bronchial asthma.
The pulmonary arterial mean pressure dropped below the control value, generally, within 5 to 10 minutes after the infusion of aminophyllin.
The pressure drop was slighter and the temporary pressure rise, few minutes after the infusion, was noted in most cases with advanced lesions.
Hyperventilation was found in most cases, but no remarkable change was observed in blood gas compositions and in cardiac indices.
Total pulmonary vascular resistance showed no definite change in each case and the work of right heart promoted usually in advanced cases.
In conclusion, cardio-pulmonary functions showed no remarkable change in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, with exception of one case complicated with bronchial asthma.
