Abstract
The 1, 988 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis hospitalized to sanatorium, were studied on the relationship between the degree of bed rest and the chemotherapeutic effects. In the 623 patients, who were the initial cases for chemotherapy, there was recognized significant relationship between good bed rest and chemotherapeutic effects. In the 1, 365 patients, re-treatment cases, there was recognized the relationship among them in slight degree. In this observation, from the view point of individuar back ground factor among the patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, the following observations were recognized, there were significant relationship the cases of infiltrocaseous type, the moderately advanced, nonsclerotic cavitary wall, simple sclerotic cavitary wall and the patients with positive culture, and no significant relationship to the cases of far advanced, complicated sclerotic cavitary wall, none cavity, negative culture and positive smear. The good bed rest gave a more desirable effect to the patients of short duration of hospitalization than long one, and no significant relationship to the patients hospitalized for two years over.
From the. view point of clinical course for two years of the 512 patients, the cases of initial treatment, the patients with good bed rest were compared with the patients with poor bed rest. The rate of negative conversion of tuberculous bacilli in culture approached together to 90 percent in both cases. The obstructive rate of cavity was about 60 percent in the patients with good bed rest, and about 45 percent in the patients with poor bed rest. The significntly and moderately improved rate in findings of chest roentgenogram was about 66 percent in the good bed rest and about 23 percent in the poor bed rest. There was a significant difference of these rate in both groups.
