Abstract
There were 12 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax from 1960 to 1971 in Gifu-Byoin National Sanatorium. Analysis on the method of treatment of the patients is described.
Of the 12 patients, 10 were males and 2 were females, 10 were idiopathic and 2 were secondary, and 10 were younger than age of 40. All of those suffered from dyspnea. Of 9 patients operated, 7 were found to have bullainthe lung. of them, one was treated with thoracentesis, another with intercostal drainage, and the rest with operation.
We consider that operation should be performed in the cases of repeated spontaneous pneumothorax or incomplete expanding of lung with thoracentesis and internal drainage.
