Abstract
The authors report a rare case of metastatic brain tumor simulating falx meningioma.
A 56-year old woman who received operation for rectal cancer 1.5 years ago developed motor disturbance of left lower extremity. CT scan revealed a tumor with homogenous contrast enhancement and surrounding brain edema at parietal portion of falx cerebri. The tumor extended mainly to the right side of the falx, and extension to the left side of the falx was also recognized. A selective right external carotid angiogram showed the sunburst arrangement of tumor vessels. Preoperative diagnosis was a falx meningioma.
A right parietal craniotomy was performed and the tumor extending to the right side of the falx was removed. Histopathological diagnosis of the tumor was metastatic adenocarcinoma. There was no evidence of meningioma. She died seven months after the operation, and the diagnosis of metastatic tumor to the falx was confirmed by autopsy.
