Abstract
We reviewed 70 cases of mediastinal tumor during an 11-year-period (1979-1989).
Thymic tumor (22 cases), mediastinal cyst (23 cases), neurogenic tumor (9 cases), teratoma (7 cases), and lymphogenic tumor (5 cases) were among the most frequent in our series. About 31%(22 cases) of all tumors were malignant.
We recommend that a trial of preoperative radiations for the invasive thymic tumors adherent to or involving great blood vessels and a combination chemotherapy should be given in order to reduce tumor bulk in advanced germ cell tumors prior to radical operation.
