Abstract
Diagnostic value and limitation of aspiration biopsy cytology (ABC) was studied in 515 cases of the breast diseases with histological proof and the following results were obtained.
1) True positive rate was 80.7% (309/383), and it did not decrease even in the case of small tumor less than 2cm.
2) False negative rate was 11.7% (45/383). It was higher in the case of scirrhous type and non-invasive type, because they lack cellular atypia.
3) False positive rate was 6.1% (8/132). Four cases were mastopathy and 2 cases were fibroadenoma.
From these findings, we confirm that ABC is a valuable examination for breast tumor, especially in the case of small one, although it has a limitation for scirrhous type, non-invasive type, and so on.
