Abstract
Our hospital was founded for the purpose of treating a great number of casualities resulting from a large scale disaster. Recruiting sufficient manpower is one of the most important factors, among which the way to establish a excellent volunteer system is included. In this paper we report the results of education of the and usefulness of drills of volunteers living in the district around our hospital.
The education or courses consist of three types; One is to familiarize their participants to the medical system of our hospital and to see patients in a non-disaster or usual situation, second is education of main themes which are necessary in disaster, and the third is drills using skill already learned.
As the results, most of the volunteers reported that they have obtained useful knowledge and they have learned the practical skills available in disaster situation.
In conclusion, our education system for volunteers is thought to be significant, which will secure the effective manpower for future, although our trial is only the first step.
