Abstract
Estimation of energy expenditure (EE) is necessary for the management of nutrition during pregnancy. Energy expenditure in physical activity can be estimated by the method based upon a correlation between heart rate and oxygen consumption VO2. To estimate EE by monitoring continuous heart rate, this study was performed on 15 pregnant women. VO2 measured by indirect calorimetry, and HR were recorded with subjects at rest (lying, sitting and standing) and walking (on treadmill) at hree different levels. VO2 and HR were highly correlated (r=0.79-1.00). Both VO2 and HR were affected by pregnancy state, but the relationship between HR and VO2/kg was not changed. Slopes of regretion two linear components of V2/kg-HR relationship were 0.03-0.07 for resting, and 0.19-0.25 for walking (control: 0.08 for resting, 0.22 for walking).
