Abstract
A study was performed on the role of the ward for child chronic diseases in the national medical institutions. Medical treatment for these patients has been primarily concentrated on chronic specific diseases in children-above all, on chronic renal diseases and asthma. With rapid propagation of school medical examination for child chronic diseases and with the introduction of early detection and early treatment of the diseases as well as the development of prophylactic and the progress in therapeutic methods for asthma in recent years, the number of child patients with severe diseases requiring long-term hospitalization and treatment has decreased. On the other hand, the number of junior and senior high school pupils who refuse to go to school or who are suffering from behavioural and emotional disorders is now increasing, and these children must be treated as inpatients. Nevertheless, facilities and management for receiving these children are currently not sufficiently provided at the wards for child chronic diseases in the national medical institutions. Efforts must be made now to meet social demands by quickly providing the wards with adequate facilities and management for child chronic diseases.
