Abstract
The goal of this investigation was to isolate, characterize and identify novel alkaliphiles from the soda lakes in Tanzania, Africa. The most phylogenetically unique alkaliphilic bacterium belonging to the genus Bacillus was further examined for its production of extracellular proteases. The biochemical properties of the natural and recombinant protease enzymes are compared in this study and its potential for large scale industrial use are reported. Another protease from a novel hyperthermophile belonging to the Thermococcus genus was expressed and studied.
