Abstract

In structure, archaeal RNA polymerases (RNAPs) and their promoters are most similar to their eukaryotic RNA polymerase II (Pol II) counterparts. However, as described, archaeal transcription initiation is most often regulated by repression and so resembles bacterial regulation, whereas archaeal transcription is terminated by oligo-T sequences reminiscent of intrinsic termination established for eukaryotic Pol III.
