Abstract
【purpose】The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between oral function and health-related quality of life(QOL)among independent community-dwelling older Japanese adults aged 65 years or older.A total of 194 participants were surveyed about age, sex,BMI,basic checklist(oral function),quality of life(QOL; SF-8 Physical,Mental Summary Score and),and Timed Up and Go Test(TUG).【Methods】Participants were divided into an non-low oral function group and low oral function group and data between the groups were compared.【Results】Logistic regression analysis revealed that the SF-8 physical component summary score(PCS)were found to be variables associated with low oral function. In the logistic analysis, the SF-8 sub-items related to low oral function were extracted as Physical function(PF).【Conclusions】From the perspective of aspiration risk, the association observed between low oral function and health-related QOL in this study suggests the need to focus on the relationship between eating and low oral function and QOL for independent older adults living in the community.
