A sulphur solution in molten iron is analysed by statistical thermodynamics based on the a priori assumption of the constant solute-solute interaction at a given temperature. The interaction energy ES-Fe between S and Fe in molten FeSx is estimated to be about -51kJ mol-1 and ES-S about -9.6kJ mol-1. The effect of additional interstitial element (C and P) on the solubility of S in molten Fe is also discussed.
