Abstract

The essence of the meridian system and the meridian points still remain unclarified even after many years of research and discussions. In North Korea, Dr. Kim Bonghan claimed that he had found the essence of the meridian system (the Bonghan ducts) and the meridian points (the Bonghan corpuscles) and he had written several papers, beginning in 1961. His theory is called the "Bonghan Theory". In Japan, Dr. Satoru Fujiwara and others claimed that they had succeeded in supplementary examinations in the 1960's. However, the main stream scientists of the related academic societies have disagreed with the Bonghan Theory. In the early 2000's, Professor Kwang-sup Soh and others at Seoul University, and a few other groups in South Korea claimed that they had got supporting data f or the theory through many supplementary examinations and they wrote many papers. Ten of the related presentations were made at the "International Congress on Mind Body Science" in joint session with the 18th Symposium on Life Information Science, at Yonsei University, Seoul, 26-29th August 2004. The ten proceedings were published in the Journal of International Society of Life Information Science, Vol.22, No.2, 2004. On the other hand, the main stream scientists of the related academic societies in Japan are searching in other directions. It is very important to discuss this matter scientifically at this Mini Symposium after learning the history, present status of studies and theories. I hope that many professionals and other interested persons will join the discussion.
