Abstract
Prior to the development of Western medicine in Japan, hot springs were widely loved and used by citizens as a treatment of diseases. The medical use of hot spring water was reduced after western medicine was introduced in Japan, and hot springs came to be used for recreational purposes mainly. However, in Europe, Russia, etc., most hot springs were used for medical purposes, medical and scientific research on hot springs was conducted, and academic societies relating to it were held as well. We launched a project to introduce Fangotherapy, that was actively being carried out in Europe, as a medical use of hot springs in Japan, but this time, we will mainly explain about the usefulness and medical use of hot springs.
