Influence of brightness of surrounding stimuli on surface-color mode perception

Abstract

We studied effects of luminance of surrounding stimuli on the surface-color mode perception. The subject adjusted the luminance of a test stimulus so that it just start to appear as aperture color in three surrounding luminance levels. The results show that the surface-color limiting luminance differs according to surrounding luminance level. Brightness of the test and surrounding stimuli can explain those differences.
