Abstract
This study examined the requirements for subjective picture quality of reflective liquid crystal displays. Thirty subjects rated 20 lightness and contrast combinations for the photo-realistic images displayed on hard copies that simulated reflective color LCDs. The result indicates that the required contrast ratio is about 15 for satisfying the users' demands for picture quality. This result was independent of the lightness conditions.
