Abstract
The PRML system for perpendicular magnetic recording using a double-layered medium and an MR head are studied. The required SNR of (1,7)RLL coded PR(1,2,3,2,1)ML and PR(1,2,3,3,2,1)ML systems is obtained and compared with that of a conventional 16/17(0,6/6)coded EPR4ML system. The result shows that PR(1,2,3,3,2,1)ML system has the best performance in high density recording
