10-8 Fundamental Investigation of Mobile Camera-Based Chinese Character Recognition

Abstract

This paper investigates fundamental characteristics of mobile camera-based Chinese character recognition. For two kinds of typical OCR algorithms, we verify the influence to recognition accuracy of light source, font type and character resolution. Experimental results using Chinese restaurant menus show that contour features are more robust for environmental changes than skeleton features.
