Abstract
In this study, motion vector prediction in H.264 coding is assumed as a target technical component. First, a performance degradation problem of H.264 is addressed especially for video signals with a specific image feature. To overcome this problem, an extensive modification for H.264 standard scheme is proposed. The proposed scheme can decide the optimal prediction vector for every block dependent on corresponding image feature. From coding experiments under low bit-rate condition for HDTV signals, it was confirmed that the coding performance gain was 12.6% as the maximum case.
