Abstract
This paper proposes a spatially scalable image coding scheme based on a non-linear image resizing technique called seam carving. In this scheme, the original size image is reconstructed from the reduced size one with a help of side information including paths of the removed seams. To reduce the amount of the side information, evenly spaced multiple seams are removed simultaneously at the resizing stage.
