Abstract
In this paper, we have obtained the exact solution for the scattering problem of a plane H-polarized wave by a perfectly conducting semi-infinite thick plate and we have shown some numerical results for the scattered far-field pattern.
As one application of the present analysis, we have proposed new approximate method for the scattered far-field of a perfectly conducting rectangular cylinder by combining our present diffracted fields of two semi-infinite thick plates oriented to the opposite directions each other. This method has the following properties :
1) This method corresponds to the simple GTD approximation and is very simple to calculate the far-field pattern of a rectangular cylinder.
2) There are discontinuities in the pattern at the directions, which are the orientations of the semi-infinite thick plates. These discontinuities are in the level of-30--50 dB compared with the maximum value of the diffraction field. This fault results from the surface currents on the conducting surfaces to be removed and disappears in the case of the incident E-plane waves.
